Need To Install A Concrete Walkway? Hire A Landscaper

If you are planning to install a concrete walkway in your yard you should not do this on your own if you do not have the experience. Instead, hire a landscape contractor to do this for you. Below is information on how this will be done so you will know what to expect.

Make Measurements

The landscape contractor will first ask you how long and wide you want your walkway to be. The contractor will use string and stakes to mark the area.

Once measured and staked, walk along the path to ensure it is the right length and width. Consider if more than one person will be walking side by side on the walkway as it will need to be much wider. Also, consider the space that you have when it comes to the width. This is an important part of the process because once the concrete is laid it dries quickly.

Dig the Trench

The contractor will then dig a trench along the path to pour the concrete into. The trench will be deep in most cases, but this does depend on how much concrete is being used. You also want the concrete to be thick enough so that it stays secure.

A piece of equipment will be used if the walkway is large or the landscape contractor may use hand equipment, such as a shovel.  Once finished, a layer of gravel will be placed in the trench to add security for the concrete.

Pour the Concrete

When it comes to pouring concrete the landscape contractor has many options. One type that is often used is a concrete placement bucket

The concrete placement bucket is an attachment that is known as a skid steer loader. The contractor can pour concrete quickly using a placement bucket. It works well for small spaces as no chutes or gates are used. The placement bucket also has no motorized or electric parts. Concrete contractors choose this type of placement because the bucket will not get clogged when pouring the concrete. The contractor can easily maneuver the skid steer so the operator is able to pour the concrete wherever it is needed.

Even the Concrete

When the concrete contractor finishes pouring the concrete, they will even it out with a special tool. This will be done quickly so the concrete does not dry before this is done. This is also a good time to determine if you want to put any type of decoration on the concrete using pavers or molds. This needs to be done before the concrete starts drying.

The landscape contractor that you hire can explain everything to you in much more detail.
